Our Story

So, I have literally had a beard since freshman year in high school, 1989 for those of you counting. My beard was generally a mess, way too thick, too much curl, totally out of control in the humidity that is ever present in the southern US. I tried shampoos, hair gels, sprays, etc. I even stole product from my sister because I didn’t want to be seen buying hair care product in the store. So I inevitably decided to keep the beard short so it would be manageable.

Fast forward to about 12 years ago when I decided to stop trimming my beard. There was this smooth fellow on IG with a fabulous beard and he had just started making and selling balms. I was happy to support his endeavor and try and tame my face forest. He eventually started making oils as well, and the pieces started to click on how to take care of my beard. And while my hair was quickly moving away from my head, nothing was stopping the ridiculous bit of lady bait growing on my face. Unfortunately after 6 or so years this chap stopped making product. I bought as much of his stock a I could, but it didn’t last very long as I had always been providing balm and oil to my buddies.

So I started shopping around for a decent product. I found some that were ok, some shea butter based, & some other butter based balms. Many that I found were water based…what? Even had one that was castor oil based, seriously smelled like my beard was hosed down with gasoline. It was horrible. It was hard if not impossible to find a high quality wax based balm that smelled great and provided the hold and manageability I desired.

So I decided to try and make some of my own…

I procured 1 pound of beeswax from a coworker. It was so raw and unfiltered it had the occasional bee wing or leg in it, and I started mixing it with oils and essentials, and testing the product myself. I also provided dozens of tins of balm and wax to friends to get their input. Eventually I settled on my recipes and some scents, and then began refining the process by finding better ingredients to provide the highest quality product.

While refining the balm and wax I began mixing oils as well. I needed something to put in my beard in the evening after a shower, and did not like using balm before bed. Sleeping sideways on a balmed-up beard would leave it all wonky in the morning. The goal with the oil was hydration and quick absorption so that it didn’t leave my beard oily.

It seems I have found the prefect blends…let me know what you think.
